Shemar Moore on His Spirit Tunnel & Raising His 3-Year-Old Daughter Around Strong Female Role Models
Actor Shemar Moore joins “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Friday, October 2, to open up about life as a proud girl dad to his 3-year-old daughter, Frankie, share his new tattoo in her honor, and talk about the importance of raising her around strong female role models. He also reveals a secret he has never shared with his devoted fans and thanks them for the love and support they’ve shown him throughout his career. Plus, he surprises Jennifer with a batch of his famous homemade cookies!
Shamar Moore brought plenty of laughs when he returned to the Tamron Hall Show and reflected on the unforgettable Spirit Tunnel moment that previously sent the internet into a frenzy.
Tamron reminded Moore that his last appearance generated more than 120 million views, a number that genuinely surprised him. He remembered the experience but admitted he hadn’t realized just how enormous the response had become.
When asked whether he thought he could recreate that magic, Moore jokingly admitted that it would be difficult to top. He explained that before his appearance, he had been relaxing backstage with his coffee when the show’s team came to get him.
His publicist wanted him to hand over the coffee before he headed out, but Moore wasn’t exactly ready to give up his precious cup! Once he realized the audience was waiting for him, however, he knew it was time to get into performance mode.
The only problem? He suddenly had to figure out what dance move to do.
Moore said he essentially had to improvise. After briefly wondering what he could possibly come up with, he decided to reach back and pull out some old-school moves. What started as an uncertain moment quickly turned into another crowd-pleasing performance, complete with plenty of cheering from the audience.
The conversation then shifted from viral dance moves to one of Moore’s favorite subjects—his daughter.
His three-year-old daughter, Frankie, is already developing quite the personality. Moore described her as a combination of himself and her mother, Jez, saying she has a big smile, plenty of independence and a personality that keeps everyone on their toes.
He also had fun discussing her being an Aquarius, especially since the rest of the family has different astrological signs. Moore joked that he had to do some research to understand the Aquarius personality and concluded that his daughter definitely has a mind of her own.
There is also an ongoing family debate about who Frankie resembles more. Naturally, Moore believes she looks like him!
Although fans are accustomed to seeing Moore play the serious, tough character on S.W.A.T., he says his real-life personality is much more playful. Away from the cameras, he’s a happy-go-lucky guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously.
His daughter, however, seems to prefer that lighter side of Dad.
Moore shared an adorable story about how Frankie reacts whenever her parents are feeling down. If her mom is upset, Frankie is quick to offer her a hug. But when Dad says he’s sad, Frankie has a completely different response. She essentially reminds him that he’s supposed to be happy!
Her solution is to encourage her dad to put on a smile, and Moore happily plays along.
The proud father also talked about sharing his love of basketball with Frankie. He and Jez have been following the WNBA and keeping up with several of the league’s teams and stars, including the Indiana Fever, Los Angeles Sparks, Dallas Wings, Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers.
That interest eventually led to a memorable experience for the family.
The Los Angeles Sparks invited Moore, Jez and Frankie to a game where they would have the opportunity to surprise Paige Bueckers. Moore already knew Bueckers from her basketball career at UConn, but he was especially amused to learn about her connection to his work on Criminal Minds and her appreciation for his character, Derek Morgan.
The family attended the game, and Frankie was thrilled about the entire experience. She got to meet Bueckers as well as other players, creating a special memory for the young basketball fan.
For Moore, the best part wasn’t simply getting his daughter courtside. He loved that Frankie was being exposed to successful women at such a young age.
Growing up with an actor for a father and a model for a mother already gives Frankie a front-row seat to the entertainment world. Now, through experiences like attending WNBA games and meeting female athletes, she’s also seeing women excel in sports and other areas.
It was a sweet reminder that some of the most meaningful memories aren’t always made on a movie set or television stage they can happen while simply spending time with family and introducing the next generation to something you love.
