Morris Chestnut: ‘Boyz n the Hood,’ Working Out to Tank’s Music, and His TikTok Fashion Trends!
Morris Chestnut and Tank Bring the Muscles, Music, and Charm to The Jennifer Hudson Show
Morris Chestnut and R&B star Tank dropped by The Jennifer Hudson Show for a lively, multi-topic interview filled with nostalgic throwbacks, career updates, and a push-up challenge that had the studio audience on their feet.
Celebrating 35 Years of Boyz n the Hood
Chestnut reflected on his breakout role as Ricky Baker in the classic 1991 film Boyz n the Hood. Looking back at vintage promotional photos, he laughed off his early ’90s fashion choices, comparing one particular outfit to a Miami Viceensemble he has no intention of reviving.
The actor also discussed his recent presence on TikTok, where he embraces viral trends, including the popular Ricky-inspired videos featuring orange saxophones.
Gym Playlists and Mutual Respect
During the sit-down, Chestnut revealed he has been a longtime fan of Tank’s music, sharing that slow R&B tracks—including Tank’s—have been part of his workout playlists since at least 2013. Tank returned the admiration, referring to Chestnut as his “North Star” and speaking on the inspiration he draws from Chestnut’s career and longevity.
Tank on Music, BET Performance, and Hearing Loss
Tank opened up about his creative process, recalling the first song he ever wrote and his background playing multiple instruments. He also discussed his vocal chemistry with Jennifer Hudson during their past BET Awards performance.
On a more personal note, Tank addressed his experience with sudden hearing loss in one ear, sharing how navigating partial deafness has impacted his life and approach as a musician.
Evolution of Fatherhood
Addressing family life, Chestnut shared that his two children are now 29 and 27. He noted that parenting young adults requires a transition from direct guidance to patient support, giving them space to navigate their own choices while remaining available for advice.
Impromptu Push-Up Challenge
Capitalizing on her guests’ fitness routines, Hudson challenged both men to a live push-up contest on the studio floor. Accompanied by a live R&B beat, Chestnut and Tank accepted the challenge, drawing high energy and cheers from the studio audience.
Current Projects
Chestnut is currently starring in the Hulu drama series Reasonable Doubt, adding to a television and film career spanning over three decades.
