Lisa Price Buys Back Carol’s Daughter
Beauty pioneer Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter, stopped by Tamron Hall to celebrate a beautiful full-circle moment in her career and introduce a new collection that takes her right back to where it all began: her kitchen!
More than three decades ago, Lisa began experimenting with fragrances, lotions and hair products in her Brooklyn kitchen, initially creating formulas that worked for her own needs. What started as a personal passion eventually blossomed into Carol’s Daughter, a groundbreaking beauty brand that became especially beloved by women with textured hair.
After selling the company in 2014 and watching it evolve under new ownership, Lisa received an opportunity she never expected: 10 years to the day later, she had the chance to become an owner of Carol’s Daughter again. Lisa admitted that although the idea initially felt intimidating, she ultimately realized, she built it once she could do it again.
The conversation also became emotional as Lisa reflected on her late mother, Carol, the woman behind the brand’s name and one of her biggest supporters. Whenever Lisa became overwhelmed, her mother would tell her to make a cup of tea and call her back. The simple ritual forced Lisa to slow down, clear her head and approach whatever challenge she was facing with a calmer perspective. How sweet is that?
Back in the Kitchen and Back to the Roots!
Now Lisa is entering her next beauty chapter with Lisa’s Kitchen Scalp & Edge Care, a collection focused on something we sometimes forget while chasing the perfect hairstyle: healthy hair starts at the foundation.
During the show, Lisa demonstrated products designed to care for the scalp and delicate hairline, including a cleansing oil that can refresh the scalp without ruining protective styles. She also introduced a lightweight, water-based scalp serum formulated to moisturize without the heavy buildup that can sometimes come from repeatedly applying oils.
And beauty girlies, Lisa had a word for those edges! Instead of continuously layering fresh edge control over yesterday’s product, she emphasized “care before control.” Her routine encourages gently removing old product, moisturizing the area and then styling giving those precious edges a little TLC before slicking them down again.
The collection also includes a gentle scalp detox cleansing nectar designed to remove buildup without leaving the hair feeling stripped. Its lightweight consistency can be especially useful for protective styles and locs because it’s formulated to rinse away more easily than a thick, creamy cleanser.
Lisa’s return to Carol’s Daughter feels like more than another business move. It’s a wonderful full-circle beauty story about trusting your instincts, knowing when to pivot and having the courage to bet on yourself again.
From mixing products in a Brooklyn kitchen to building an iconic beauty brand and eventually finding her way back home, Lisa Price is proof that sometimes your next chapter leads you right back to your roots.
