Jamie Foxx on Appreciating Life Now, Expecting a Baby & His Dad Living with Him

Jamie Foxx is back, bringing his signature humor, honesty and larger-than-life personality to the stage! The Oscar and Grammy winner recently sat down to talk about his new stand-up comedy special, Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself, premiering October 7 on Hulu.

Foxx reflected on the serious health scare that changed his perspective on life, sharing just how grateful he is to simply be here. He joked that after nearly losing his life, even something as ordinary as drinking a glass of water feels like a luxury!

That new appreciation for life has also inspired the message behind his comedy special. Foxx explained that “Take Care of Yourself” is a reminder to slow down, enjoy life and recognize that we’re all simply passing through. He shared a touching story about meeting a 97-year-old man who encouraged him to live, have fun and enjoy every moment. Foxx even performed his entire comedy routine for him before learning that the man passed away shortly afterward.

Jamie Foxx Is Going to Be a Dad Again!

Foxx also opened up about becoming a father again at 58. With daughters who are 32 and 18, he joked about returning to the school drop-off line and even doing the math on how old he’ll be as his newest child grows up.

As only Jamie Foxx can, he turned the conversation into comedy, joking about aging and comparing his experience to fellow actor Al Pacino, who also became a father later in life.

His Dad Is Still Keeping Him Laughing

Family was another big part of the conversation, particularly Foxx’s father, who now lives with him. Foxx hilariously described their relationship, including his dad’s dramatic reactions to getting older and his tendency to constantly announce that his time is near.

Foxx also joked about his father’s dating life, revealing that although his dad has a stutter when talking to family, suddenly that stutter disappears when he’s speaking to a woman he likes!

Aging Has Become Part of the Comedy

The title Take Care of Yourself also comes from Foxx realizing that he’s officially entered a new chapter of life. He joked about going from being the young guy everyone wanted to see to hearing people tell him, “Take care of yourself!”

One hilarious story involved Foxx going to a nightclub filled with younger people and realizing that he might have officially become the “old guy” in the room. After the DJ gave him a shout-out, Foxx stood up proudly only to have the DJ jokingly call him a “young” old guy!

Even the valet got in on the joke, sending Foxx off with the perfect parting words: “Take care of yourself.”

A Full-Circle Comedy Moment

Foxx also paid tribute to his longtime friend and comedian Speedy, whom he met when he first arrived in Los Angeles in the late ’80s. The two have remained friends for more than three decades and even recently supported each other’s comedy specials.

Foxx revealed that he filmed his new special on the same Oakland stage where he won a major comedy competition in 1991 making the moment a full-circle celebration of his journey.

From his early days navigating the comedy scene to becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognizable entertainers, Foxx has certainly come a long way.

And now, he’s using comedy to celebrate life, family, getting older and, most importantly, taking care of yourself.
