Diarra from Detroit Celebrates at Essence Festival of Culture with Custom Ice Cream Truck Activation
Diarra from Detroit brought plenty of flavor and fun to the 2026 ESSENCE Festival of Culture over the Fourth of July weekend with a vibrant two-day custom ice cream truck activation in the heart of New Orleans.
The colorful pop-up gave festivalgoers a sweet way to celebrate the hit series while building anticipation for its highly anticipated second season. Fans enjoyed frozen treats, interactive experiences, and the chance to catch up on Season 1, now streaming on Paramount+. One of the weekend’s biggest highlights came on Saturday when creator and star Diarra Kilpatrick made a special appearance alongside cast member DomiNque Perry, greeting fans and sharing exciting details about the show’s return.
Created by and starring Diarra Kilpatrick, Season 2 follows Diarra Brickland as she attempts—and spectacularly fails to enjoy a carefree “hot girl summer” without getting tangled in another wildly unpredictable Detroit mystery. What begins as a seemingly simple furniture recovery job quickly unravels into a triple homicide investigation, a citywide treasure hunt, and another journey deep into Detroit’s criminal underworld. Along the way, Diarra juggles her complicated love life while going undercover with a secret society, landing a role in a Tubi movie, chasing urban legends, dodging gang warfare, and uncovering long-buried secrets beneath the city. In true Diarra fashion, chaos always seems to find her.
The critically acclaimed comedy-mystery returns July 29 on Paramount+ with an eight-episode season that kicks off with the first two episodes dropping on premiere day, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through the September 9 finale. Returning cast members include DomiNque Perry, Bryan Terrell Clark, Jon Chaffin, Shannon Wallace, Phylicia Rashad, and Harry Lennix, while Method Man, Morris Chestnut, Amber Riley, and Lil Rel Howery join the fun as special guest stars, making Season 2 one of the summer’s most anticipated premieres.
