Pinky Review: Disney ‘Jungle Cruise’ Starring Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt
I had an opportunity to see a pre-screening of the upcoming film Jungle Cruise that sails into theaters tomorrow! It also will stream on Disney +. If you want to see a movie that’s good for the whole family, then you want to head out to see this one! I really enjoyed it and had a lot of laughs while watching! Emily Blunt plays Dr. Lil Houghton and Dwayne Johnson plays Frank Wolff.
The film is based on Disneyland’s themed park ride and a remix of Indiana Jones. Dr. Lily Houghton and her brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall) stumble upon an artifact and travel thru the Amazon River to find an ancient tree with healing powers. That’s when she seeks out skipper Frank to help her. All hell breaks loose as they embark on a dangerous journey! Step inside to see what I thought about the funny movie and more….
I loved the chemistry between Frank and Dr. Lily Houghton. The are an unlikely duo though lol. She plays pretty hard to get and Frank doesn’t give up but tries his best to keep it professional. She wanted to get down to business and get the journey over with while Frank kidded around most times and had a lot of terrible jokes to try and break the ice.
The wardrobe was pretty spectacular, I liked how costume designer Paco Delgado dressed Lily with her safari looks. She was a modern day lady although it was frowned upon to wear trousers in that time. She kept it classy throughout her journey but sporty as well. She was making a movement without really knowing. Delgado said that he got inspiration from Amelia Earhart and other fashion icons of the early 20th century.
I liked the storyline. The movie kept your attention as you wondered what trouble they were going to run into next! It’s full of surprises, action-packed, suspenseful, laughs, heartfelt and down right fun. The movie was shot on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, so it’s so pretty to watch. There’s always a villain in Disney movies and you will love to hate Prince Joachim, watch out for him. It was shot well and the visuals are very good. I give the movie a B+. Till next time!
Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs the film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramírez and Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti. The producers are John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment; Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia and Dany Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions; and Beau Flynn of Flynn Picture Co., with Scott Sheldon and Doug Merrifield serving as executive producers. The story is by John Norville & Josh Goldstein and Glenn Ficarra & John Requa, and the screenplay is by Michael Green and Glenn Ficarra & John Requa. Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” releases in U.S. theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on July 30, 2021.
